What Are The Side Effects of Acai Berries?

Those who have an interest in the field of nutrition have certainly heard about acai supplements. These berries have been attracting a lot of interest, yet are unavailable in grocery stores.

The acai berry is the fruit of a palm tree native to the Amazon River basin in South America. Brazil is the largest producer of the fruit, where it has been enjoyed for thousands of years.

You need not particularly worry about acai berry side effects. Only few of them do have any at all- and the surprising fact is that most of these so-called side effects are actually beneficial!

The Acai fruit perishes easily once the harvesting process is over. Thus, it is pulped, processed, and stored instead of being sold in its original form. The product we purchase is the frozen, dried, and powdered Acai berry. This also makes transporting these berries easier. The powder can easily transformed into its liquid form, say a smoothie, for drinking purposes. In the United States, Acai berries are available as either dried or frozen.

As far as side effects go, there has been one documented case of Chagas disease being contracted after eating some acai berries which had been contaminated by animal feces – however, this was associated with eating fresh acai berries in their natural environment and has ever been seen in processed acai berries being exported.

The natives of the green Amazon rainforests consider the Acai berry a major source of food. And today, this berry is being rated as one of the major fruits in the field of nutrition. What are the benefits, then, you ask. Well, it has been reported to have improved a person’s energy level, health conditions, as well as sex drive. It is no wonder that this berry is being termed as the ‘Amazon Viagra’ and is being sold widely in Rio De Janeiro.

Acai berries also contain the antioxidant compound anthocynanin which is found in red wine. As it happens, acai berry contains ten times as much of this antioxidant as does red wine. This makes the acai berry an exceptionally heart healthy food.

If you purchase an Acai berry related product, however, run a check regarding the medicinal properties of the product. Ask your doctor about the products listed, if required. As a consumer, you must take the precautions required before consuming anything you are unused to.

You need not be falsely alarmed since acai berries are not reportedly widely to pose as health hazards- yet you can never be too sure. Do your own bit of research before experiencing the miracle that this berry is!
