Knowing About Free Radicals and Antioxidants

What exactly is a “Free Radical”?  While most of us have heard the name, it is not necessarily understandable precisely what a free radical is.  A free radical is a naturally occurring result of our bodily functions.  In excessive quantities they are destructive and they can damage our cells and produce disease and age related decay.  However, they are not all detrimental and our bodies do have need of some of them.

Free radicals happen during the process of oxidation in our bodies.  Contemplate on how an apple will go brown if it is cut open and out in the open to air.  That is the method of oxidation and it is the same process that causes free radicals in our bodies.

Oxygen is transported throughout our bloodstream where it is obligatory for ordinary cell function.  Often the oxygen molecule in our bodies is lacking in the number of electrons that it holds.  The electrons need to be stable so the oxygen molecule will actually lift an electron from another molecule, which then leaves that molecule with an unpaired electron.  That is a free radical, a molecule with an unpaired electron.

Free radicals are produced by any number of various factors.  The quality of the oxygen could be impaired because of environmental pollutants, cigarette smoke and more.  Diverse physical functions can also play a role to deficient oxygen condition.  The foodstuff we have, unwarranted contact to radiation, both from the sun or from medical x-rays, environmental pollutants and more can bring about the creation of free radicals.  Anytime the body uses oxygen for any role free radicals are formed in the process.

Since free radicals are so highly unstable they can bring about a great deal of disorder and conflict for the body.  Science has shown that free radicals are a substantial contributing issue to premature aging, the clogging of arteries and the growth of many diseases.

Antioxidants work to reduce the effect the free radicals.  The antioxidant will pair up with the unpaired electron or the free radical and even out it.  However, in the course of that more free radicals are produced and you must always continue to replace the antioxidants.  In other words, in order for antioxidants to be helpful you must fully implement them into your diet and consume them everyday.

Antioxidants have been established to be helpful to counteract the effects of aging, the avoidance of disease, and an aid to weight loss, insomnia, infertility and even more.  All of nature’s healthiest foods have high quantities of antioxidants and it is most beneficial to get your antioxidants from eating a nourishing diet.

Free radicals are a physical side-effect of living and we cannot do without them, however in disproportionate quantities they can affect many problems.  You can limit free radical damage by consuming sufficient of natural occurring antioxidants and you can find these powerful nutrients in the acai berry plus most of nature’s healthiest foods. The best way to get antioxidants is to combine acai berries with an all-around healthy diet. For more info about where to buy acai berry, visit me at my blog.
