The definition of infertility is a person’s or animal’s inability to get pregnant. Female infertility is a woman’s inability to conceive after a long period of time with which there is unprotected intercourse. In many cases of female infertility, it is initially not known whether the man or the woman is the cause of not being able to conceive. Tests are given to both male and female partners in order to pinpoint who is infertile. The primary indication of female infertility is usually the inability to conceive or to follow the pregnancy to full term.

Other than the obvious inability to conceive, there are also other signs of female infertility which may be obvious to the diagnosing doctor. Female infertility is suspected when the women may have a menstrual cycle that is unpredictable or unstable or even absent for months on end. Pain in the region of the woman’s reproductive system may also pinpoint to female infertility. Pain may signify some blockage or injury to the female reproductive organs or system that may be the cause of female infertility.

Other signs may manifest in the skin such as oily skin, unnaturally excessive hair growth and acne that recurs. These are signs of a hormonal imbalance that may have an effect on a woman’s reproductive system. Hormones play a huge role in regulating the body’s basic functions and one of the more basic functions is the reproductive system. Female infertility may be the result of hormones which are not functioning well or not being produced properly by the woman’s body.

Other signs which may lead a doctor to suspect female infertilityare abnormal basal body temperature, infections in the reproductive system such as UTI or sexually transmitted diseases and recurring yeast infections. A woman’s basal body temperature can actually indicate whether the woman is fertile or not. A woman can have some problems in conceiving because of irregular specific temperature range. Infections can contribute to female infertility especially if these are left untreated for so long. Damage to the reproductive system usually happens if the infections or diseases are ignored.

Some cases of female infertility are easily remedied while others may be tricky. Medications can be prescribed for some cases of female infertility caused by hormones or irregular menstruation. Those who want to conceive can go through operations or medical procedures.
