The ‘real food’ revolution: get the most out of every mouthful

Many Canadians rely on multi-vitamin supplements to compensate for a lack of nutrients due to poor food choices and fast-paced lifestyles. In fact, a national study found close to fifty per cent of us report purchasing vitamin or mineral supplements. Amongst 13-19 year olds, the number was as high as 42.5 per cent. While supplements can be beneficial, some dietitians suggest that Canadians may benefit by a return to ‘real foods’ in their diet. (more…)

What Are The Ways Of Preventing Diabetes?

It is possible to delay pre-diabetes and diabetes and, in some instances, prevent it from developing at all. Pre-diabetes is the stage where there are higher-than-normal levels of sugar in the blood stream, but not enough to be classified as diabetes. It is important to know that pre-diabetes can lead to type 2 diabetes, especially if left untreated. Luckily, a recent study has shown that moderate exercise and a change to healthier ways of eating can help prevent pre-diabetes and possibly diabetes itself. (more…)
